Over view
Our itinerary, between Cusco and Puno, lasts about 10 hours, during which you´ll enjoy a number of delightful and magical places, charged with ancestral history, such as ‘America´s Sistine Chapel’, the imposing Temple of Wiracocha (the Incas´ Supreme God), the majestic La Raya Mountain Pass which marks the boundary, between the departments of Cusco and Puno, with views towards snowcapped Mount Chimboya, and a visit at the Pukara Culture´s Lithic Museum.
Itinerary
1.- At the indicated time, transfer from your hotel, to the bus station.
2.- Leaving Cusco, at 7:00 a.m., aboard a bus.
3.- First stop in Andahuaylillas (3,093 m.a.s.l.).
There, we´ll visit Andahuaylillas´ Saint Peter Apostle Church, better known as ‘America´s Sistine Chapel’, which is a Jesuit architectural work that dates back the 16th and 17th centuries. That little church stands-out for its mural paintings´ beauty, as well as for its gold-sheet covered frames and Cusco´s Art School oil paintings it shelters.
4.- The Incan Architectural Complex of Raqchi and Wiracocha´s Temple (3,450 m.a.s.l.) is located in the District of San Pedro, in the Province of Canchis, and its most important structure is Wiracocha´s Temple. There, we´ll also find a great number of ‘Colcas’ or grain storage warehouses, as well as magnificent buildings, erected with stones and adobes (sun-dried mud and straw bricks).
5.- Sicuani and Buffet-Lunch (3,450 m.a.s.l.)
Our buffet-lunch is included in the bus ticket, and consists of a broad range of regional and national dishes, with entrées, fresh vegetables, garnishes, the yummiest desserts and hot drinks (coca-leaf tea, coffee or tea).
6.- The La Raya Mountain Pass (4,335 m.a.s.l.).
Is the border between the departments of Cusco and Puno, over 4,335 in altitude, with views of the famous snowcapped Mount CHIMBOYA, where the AMAZON RIVER has its source, and you´ll have your best chances to take wonderful pictures of the surrounding landscape.
7.- Pukara´s Lithic Museum (3,900 m.a.s.l.).
The Pukara Culture dates back to 300 b.C. So, in this museum, we´ll see ceramics and sculptures that represent zoomorphic designs and, among them, there is the famous sculpture of the HATUNÑAQAC or Supreme Throat-cutter.
8.- ARRIVAL IN PUNO (3,810 m.a.s.l.)
Arrival in the city of Puno, between 5:00 and 5:30 p.m.
