Itinerary
Day 1: Flight over the Nazca Lines and Trip to Paracas
3:45 a.m.: Departure Lima-Nazca, aboard a Cruz del Sur tourism bus (2nd floor).
10:30 a.m.: Arrival in Nazca, assistance upon arrival and transfer to Nazca´s aerodrome.
Flight over the Nazca Lines: From the sky we´ll observe the majestic lines and designs, left by the Nazca Culture, on the desert-like Pampas de San José, that cover about 500 hectares, and have been studied, for many years by defunct Dr. María Reiche who dedicated great part of her life to the study of these lines, and considered them as the world´s largest astronomical calendar.
From the Aerodrome of Nazca, we´ll board a light plane that will take us on a 30 to 35-minute flight over the mysterious Nazca Lines, to sight 12 designs: The Whale, trapezoids, the Monkey, Dog, Condor, Spider, Hummingbird, Gannet, Macaw, Hands, Tree and the Astronaut (the most mysterious of all), amidst others, of great dimensions, from 15 to 300 meters in length, with an average depth of about 30 centimeters. Time to have lunch (on your own account), and go on personal activities.
At the indicated time, transfer to the bus station, for a trip to Paracas, on the 2nd floor of a Cruz del Sur tourism bus.
7:30 p.m.: Arrival in Paracas, and transfer to your hotel, for dinner and the overnight stay.
Day 2: Ballestas Islands Tour – Paracas – Reserve – Trip to Lima
After breakfast at your hotel, transfer to the El Chaco Dock. At 8:00 a.m.: Sea-faring tour to the Ballestas Islands, to visit them, during around two hours. In the course of that journey, we´ll have a chance to contemplate the ‘Candlestick’; a gigantic design carved on a high sand dune, in the Paracas Peninsula.
At the Ballestas Islands, you´ll have chances to enjoy a very close look at the local marine fauna, with great colonies of sea lions and seals, on the beaches and rocks. You´ll also observe groups of Humboldt penguins, in small caves, as well as a broad diversity of sea birds, such as cormorants, ‘piqueros’, pelicans, seagulls and tendrils, among others, perched on rock formations, or flying above the Pacific Ocean´s beauty.
10:00 a.m.: Return to Paracas, and time for a snack.
11:00 a.m.: Starting the Paracas National Reserve Tour, we´ll sail by the Paracas Peninsula, and will observe the reddish and yellow colored desert, with its sand formations, sculpted by the coastal and oceanic winds, as we visit beautiful beaches, like Playa Yumaque, Playa Roja and Playa Lagunillas, where we´ll have some free time to have lunch, given that there are restaurants, facing the beach, or take a stroll on the beach.
Before ending that excursion, we´ll get to know the Paracas Vantage Point, from which there is an exceptional view towards the bay that encompasses the famous rock formation known as ‘The Cathedral’. The Paracas Reserve one of Peru´s largest range of marine species, as it shelters over 200 bird species, and a great number of marine species.
